The writing notebook

We use our notebooks a lot in my classroom. I thought I could share with you some tips to make them work in your classroom too.

Writing notebook

TIP 1: Make your students excited about the notebook. I make a big deal when I give my firsties their notebook. They don’t use it in Kinder so it is a big kids’ notebook.

TIP 2: Set expectations in the beginning. We work with lined paper first to practice the handwriting rules.

TIP 3: Model, model, model. This is a must in the classroom.

TIP 4: Don’t go crazy correcting every mistake. It won’t make them better writers.

TIP 5: Improve their writing little by little. Focus on the little things that will make their writting better. Try not to overwhelm them.

Classroom social distance rules in Spanish

Are you going back in-person with your students? With so many teachers vaccinated I know most of you are going back your classrooms this spring.

It is so exciting seeing the kids after so long.

We have been face to face in Spain all year. And I loved it. I mean it was scary at some times but I know kids need and deserve seeing their friends and playing together.

In Spain we have ‘bubble classrooms’. It means that we can be close to each other with our group but we cannot be close to other person from another classroom.

I have a couple of tips for you.

The first weeks are the most difficult. Kids are not used to be masked all day. And there are many new safety rules. So try to relax and focus on the new rules as you do some fun activities.

Back to school in person

The second tip is that you teach outside as much as you can. My second graders love math centers, story telling and reading outside.

Today I am sharing with you these Spanish posters for safety rules in the classroom. In the next posts I’ll try to post some social distance ideas for your classroom.

Ya llegan los Reyes Magos

Happy New Year Everyone!

I am joining Iteachbilinguals linky party!

If you are in Spain you are still on Holiday. If you are a dual language teacher in the U.S. You will be back to school soon. So I think that this is a good freebie for you:

Reyes magos

It is a Wise Men simple craftivity that you can use to write a letter to the Reyes Magos. It could be a Thank You letter if you go back to school on the 7th or you could just write a poem. That is what we did.

The printable file includes head and hands on one page, 2 beards for two students on the next page, 2 crowns for to students on the third page and the writing paper. If you want to create your own writing paper, the FREE border is from Kinda Art.

I highly recommend printing the face/hands page on colored paper to avoid extra coloring.

To do the crowns we first drew the top part, you can see each student has a different design on top. I asked them to make a few ‘big mountains’ instead or lots of tiny ones for easy cutting. Then we decorated with stickers.

If you are looking for more Reyes Magos resources visit last year post.

Have fun and enjoy the linky!
