We use our notebooks a lot in my classroom. I thought I could share with you some tips to make them work in your classroom too.
TIP 1: Make your students excited about the notebook. I make a big deal when I give my firsties their notebook. They don’t use it in Kinder so it is a big kids’ notebook.
TIP 2: Set expectations in the beginning. We work with lined paper first to practice the handwriting rules.
TIP 3: Model, model, model. This is a must in the classroom.
TIP 4: Don’t go crazy correcting every mistake. It won’t make them better writers.
TIP 5: Improve their writing little by little. Focus on the little things that will make their writting better. Try not to overwhelm them.
